So you want to make a server with friends. But it can feel very complicated. What do I need to get started? How much does it cost? This post will explain what options are there and how to do them.

Server Hosts

Server Hosts are my personal favorite method of starting a server. They are super quick to start up and very affordable. In addition, server hosts such as Apex Server hosting are super flexible to your needs based on if you want mods or have a lot of friends. However, finding a trustworthy server host that can fit your budget may take some time. Luckily, I compared the bests server hosts here if you are interested.

Self Run Server

If you also want total control or are willing to take a little time to figure out how to make one, making your own server is the best way. It is easily the cheapest way as it costs you nothing to set up a server. However, running a server from your computer can be a hassle if you want it running 24/7, and generally, cheaper computers can't handle a server and Minecraft simultaneously.

Here's a guide on how you can start one yourself:

Minecraft Realms

If you don't want to go through the efforts of making a server. You can get Minecraft themself to host it for you. They are a trustworthy group that will run your server for you. They are, however, the most expensive to run monthly (compared to server hosts at their starting prices), and each realm can only hold a maximum of 10 players. Here are some guides to making a Minecraft Realm for both Java and Bedrock Edition.
